We are extremely proud to share the following text of the recenetly passed New York Senate Legislation honoring our victorious chess team. Yasher Koach!

A 2009 LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Schechter Westchester Chess Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2009 United States Chess Federation Supernational Tournament

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend and pay tribute to those young people who have inspired and brought pride to our majestic Empire State by achieving outstanding success in competition; and

WHEREAS,
Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Schechter Westchester Chess Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2009 United States Chess Federation Supernational Tournament; and

WHEREAS, Coached by international grandmaster Adnan Kobas, the Schechter Westchester Chess Team was led by Ben Gershenov and Michael Bodek, who also claimed individual championships, and Alexander Reis, Max Steinberg, Joshua Abady and Jared Goldfarb; and

WHEREAS, The United States Chess Federation Supernationals occur only once every four years and feature 5,300 of the best student chess players from 1,515 teams from 45 states and Puerto Rico; and

WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, the members of the Schechter Westchester Chess Team now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers, coaches, and parents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor the Schechter Westchester Chess Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2009 United States Chess Federation Supernational Tournament and extend to them its best wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-being, fully confident of their response to a promising future and appreciative of the model they represent for all aspiring young people of the Empire State; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to the Schechter Westchester Chess Team.
