Anna Rosenbloom (Grade 9) Wins Gold Medal in National Scholastic Writing Competition
Posted 03/27/2018 01:15PM

Mazal tov to Anna Rosenbloom, a SW ninth-grade student who earned a national gold medal for a piece of flash fiction she submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition. This achievement places Anna, the only ninth-grade gold medalist from Westchester, within the top one percent of all seventh through twelfth graders across the country who entered their work in this contest. She is also the only Westchester gold medalist in the category of flash fiction, and one of only two ninth-graders nationally to receive a gold medal in flash fiction.

In receiving this accolade, Anna joins a legacy of celebrated authors, including Joyce Carol Oates, Sylvia Plath, and Truman Capote, who each was bestowed this or a similar Scholastic honor in the past. For as long as she can remember, Anna has delighted in language and word play, relishing metaphor, double entendres, and the challenge of subverting her readers' expectations. Recently she has discovered the pleasure of writing from unconventional perspectives. In recognition of her talent, Anna has been invited to attend a special awards ceremony at Carnegie Hall this June. Yasher koach, Anna!
